Nya La Ka, or Night Moon Dance, was a multimedia performance based on three poems by Myanmar poet Nyein Way and featured musicians, artists, and performers from the United States, Thailand, Hong Kong, Germany, and Myanmar. The performance, sponsored by the Asian Cultural Council, was the result of 9 days of cooperative collaboration between local artists and guest artists from abroad. It included music composed by Kit Young, Parami Shoon, U Kyauk Sein, and Hong Kong artist John Chen, and performances by artist U San Oo (MSO) reading the poetry, violinist U Tin Yi, slide guitarist U Tin, clarinetist Bohdan Hilash, chauklan bat (six-drums) player U Soe Thein, percussionist U Kyauk Sein (Mr. Jade) playing the put waing, oboeist U Ba Thay, baritone Thomas Buckner, Bharatyanatyam dancer Kamala Cesar, Likay dancer Pradit Prasartthong, Myanmar classical dancer Shwe Man Chan Tha, puppeteer Aye Aye Thwee, and the Gitameit Voices choir, and was directed by director and stage designer Manuel Lutgenhorst.
