A major facet of what Gitameit is about is teaching musicians to be involved with the community at large. Arranging concerts, learning how to fund-raise for charitable causes, performing and teaching in underprivileged schools and in rural areas are some of the goals that Gitameit shares with its student teachers and performers.

March-May 2006 - Hlaing Thaya Summer School Project

Two monastic schools in Hlaing Thaya were identified by Gitameit students as being in great need of support, both educational and material. In March 2006 a summer course was started for 86 children teaching English and music skills which will be continued during the school year on weekends. The project was coordinated by Sai Nyi Nyi (photo below left).

Hlaing Thaya summer school project children (65 of them) arrive by bus to see Shwe Dagon Pagoda, the Zoo, and tour the city for the first time.

February 2005 - Yangon School for the Blind
