1. From its infancy as Gitameit Music Center, Gitameit Institute continues its path to engage audiences and performers in vital music-making and learning to sustain community and develop wide cultural understandings and connections.
2. Skills in music learning and teaching develop self-confidence, curiosity, discipline and leadership, a respect for individuality as well as teamwork in ensemble. Learning to ask questions, accept or express difference and maintain dialogue is crucial for change in democratic Myanmar’s society at- large. Programs at Gitameit Institute address these issues through engagement with music and the performing arts to encourage leaders to expand possibility in creatively building new audiences.
3. In keeping with Myanmar’s growth in private and governmental educational frameworks and initiatives, Gitameit Institute plays a major role in providing advanced training in music through its Teaching Artist Program in partnership with the University Of Washington School Of Music. Musicians in this program prepare to meet the challenges of the new Myanmar.
