Burmese Blessings

Written solely for Gitameit Voices by Matthew J. Walton while he was conducting piano and music composition classes at our Gitameit Center, Yangon in 2008.

“Burmese Blessing” is an homage to the religious diversity in Burma. It is based on the Buddhist chant of metta (loving kindness), but also interweaves blessings used by Christian, Muslim, and Hindu practitioners in Burma.

Matthew Walton is a graduate student in political science at the University of Washington. His first degree was in music composition at Syracuse University. He taught composition, voice, and conducting at Gitameit in 2008 and sang with and conducted Gitameit Voices.
